Recent studies by NCSC (National cybersecurity centre) revealed 590 security breaches in public sector organisations this last year with 30 deemed serious enough to warrant a cross-government response.
This includes parliamentary email accounts in June and the WannaCry ransomware attack in May which disrupted the functions of 47 hospital trust, leading to ambulances being diverted and operations being cancelled.
